Real & Raw
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
-Maya Angelou
Truer words have never been spoken. For as long as I can remember, I have felt a burning desire to share my story with the world, and, for some reason, have always envisioned it manifesting as a personal memoir of sorts. Instead, I have chosen to communicate it in the form of this website and blog, which I will be writing and populating gradually, on a regular basis. It has taken me all these years to finally give birth to this project, as I was previously too afraid and even ashamed to expose myself, and to speak publicly about the kinds of things I wanted to, for fear of being judged or criticized. You see, I come from a culture and society where we are not at all encouraged to air our ‘dirty laundry’, or speak our truth, especially when it comes to ‘sensitive’ matters. However, as I have gotten older, I’ve come to not only appreciate, but also admire, those women, especially, who have come before me, who so bravely and boldly have spoken about subjects that are considered too risqué and taboo in our world. Also, I have learned that showing up, authentically and unapologetically, and telling my story, baring my soul, and exposing my honest, naked, vulnerable, and authentic voice, helps me know myself on a deeper and more intimate level. Also, as was the case for me, my story may help other women find their courageous voices too. As Brené Brown, the brilliant American professor, author, and researcher, known for her work on shame, vulnerability, and leadership, perfectly put it, ‘Owning our story and loving ourselves through the process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.’ So here I am, being brave, and ‘daring greatly’ (https://brenebrown.com/book/daring-greatly/)
In this blog, that I decided to call ‘Real & Raw’, I will be touching on universal themes that many of us share and can relate to. I will also be sharing excerpts from my life that draw upon my personal experiences around culture and conditioning, what is ours and what we’ve subconsciously inherited; displacement and our very real, human need for safety and security; growing up with Eldest Daughter syndrome and all the pressures and expectations that came with that; family dynamics and healing the Father and Mother wounds; changing hormones, ovarian cysts, and our connection to our bodies; sexuality and self-expression; love, marriage and the programs we are raised with; finding my voice and the courage to use it; learning the value of sisterhood and true friendship; the lessons that I learned from yoga and my spiritual journey, intuition, acceptance, surrender; and much much more.
Welcome to my world, and watch this space!
